Buddha said his teachings were like a finger pointing to the moon.  I thought that it was "Words are fingers pointing to the moon."  I sort of knew that.  'Its like a finger pointing away to the moon. Don't concentrate on the finger or you will miss all that heavenly glory.'  Bruce Lee
